Mulbury has begun work on a £5.3m housing development in Tyldesley in Wigan, Greater Manchester, on behalf of Your Housing Group.
The project will see 40 two and three-bedroom houses built on land at Lancaster Avenue. On the site of the former Homeground public house, Rose Meadows is close to six primary schools and two secondary schools.
Half the properties will be available under the shared ownership scheme and the other 20 will be under the rent to buy scheme.
The rent to buy scheme allows the resident to live in the property at a discounted rent for a maximum of five years. This allows them to save for a deposit and ultimately have first refusal to purchase the home should they wish.
The scheme will offer a range of semi-detached properties with driveway parking and rear gardens. Some of the properties will have the advantage of backing onto open fields.
Under a mile from Tyldesley town centre, and a mile and a half from the centre of Atherton, the development benefits from good local amenities including shops and medical facilities.
Lorraine Donnelly, director of development for Your Housing Group, said: “We are really pleased to be able to invest in this part of Wigan. This development will provide much-needed affordable homes and enable local people to take their first step on the property ladder. The location is ideal for commuting to surrounding towns and to the cities of Manchester and Liverpool.”
Greg Mulligan, director of Mulbury, said: “We’re helping housing providers across the North West to build quality homes that offer genuine housing choice to people in different circumstances. We’re proud to be working in partnership with Your Housing Group on these desirable new homes in this part of Greater Manchester.”
This development is part-funded through a Strategic Partnership deal with Homes England.
Nick Cumberland, senior specialist at Homes England, said: “Homes England is committed to working with partners to deliver more homes faster, helping communities and providing affordable housing using funding from the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme.
“It’s great to see our funding helping to deliver affordable homes in Tyldesley and we look forward to seeing the development take shape.”
JLL delivered the planning permission for the scheme, liaising with all parties including Mulbury, Your Housing Group and Wigan Council.
The scheme is scheduled to take 12 months to complete. Anyone interested in a property should call Your Housing Group on 01925 394827 for more information.
