Donation enhances the healing environment at Beechwood Cancer Care

Mulbury has supported a local cancer charity by donating the contents of one of its show homes.

A flurry of furnishings has enhanced the healing environment at Beechwood Cancer Care’s centre in Stockport, with homeware including tables, chairs, lighting, storage solutions and decorative accessories donated by Mulbury in a bid to aid wider renovation works at the charity’s centre.

Beechwood Cancer Care provides psychological support services to those living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, as well as their relatives and carers, children, young people and families through individual counselling, a variety of workshops, support groups and alternative holistic therapies.

Some of the furniture has been used to create a new relaxation room for the charity, offering its users a designated quiet space to practice hypnotherapy, meditation, mindfulness and other relaxation techniques.

Decor, including serene wall art, has also helped refurbish its counselling rooms and ‘Hub’, instilling a sense of calm into the space, while additional furniture including beds, wardrobes and mattresses has been auctioned off across Beechwood’s eBay store in a bid to boost charity coffers.

Greg Mulligan, director and co-founder at Mulbury, said: “As well as financial donations, we’re constantly looking for creative ways to extend a hand and forge links with charitable organisations in the local communities in which we operate.”

Mulbury has been an ongoing supporter of Beechwood Cancer Care for five years, with its Man@Manchester comedy event a highlight of the developer’s annual charity fundraising calendar.

Greg continued: “Charities like Beechwood have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic, with normal fundraising initiatives like its Man@Manchester event put on pause, so we wanted to find another way to help.

“Beechwood provides invaluable support for a cause that is very close to our hearts here at Mulbury, so it’s excellent to see the donated items contributing to the tremendous service the charity provides.”

Linda Steggles, CEO at Beechwood Cancer Care, added: “We’re immensely grateful to Mulbury for the support over the last five years as we rely so heavily on fundraising to provide Beechwood’s services. Our usual calendar of fundraising events grounded to a halt when the pandemic hit, which has had a substantial impact on the charity, yet we’ve continued to deliver our much-needed services.

“Seeking support when diagnosed with cancer or other life-limiting illness is a huge step for patients and their families, and providing a relaxing and comfortable client experience is hugely important to us.

“We were part-way through refreshing tired areas of the centre and had to put these works on hold when the pandemic hit, so to receive the show home furnishings from Mulbury was such a welcome surprise. The donation has enabled us to continue the refresh, which will be fully enjoyed by many as restrictions begin to lift.

“On behalf of the Beechwood team and the Board of Trustees, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Mulbury, and in particular to Greg, Martin and Sophia for their commitment to the Beechwood cause.”
