The scheme will see 195 new homes, a mix of affordable and private market housing, created on the 13.5 acre former Walton Hospital site along with an Aldi supermarket.

The development, off Rice Lane, will bring back into use land left vacant when the hospital was demolished in August 2011 following its closure the previous year.

It will create 101 affordable homes on the site for shared equity sale and affordable rent, while a further 70 homes will be built for open market sale. The scheme also includes plans for 24 apartments to be managed by a social housing provider.

The homes have been designed to complement existing housing in the area, including the Grade II listed clock tower building which dates from the 1860s and is now residential apartments. The site is also adjacent to the recently opened Clock View Hospital.
