Can pension funds finance new homes?

Fresh proposals to revolutionise house building from the Future Homes Commission are big, bold and bound to create controversy.

The commission, set up by the Royal Institute of British Architects, says council pension funds could be used to stimulate the building of up to 300,000 homes a year. Its report speaks of a housing revolution that could kick-start growth and generate tens of thousands of jobs.

Should building regulations be standardised?

News that an industry-wide group has been tasked to radically reduce building standards red tape must be applauded.

The government has asked a number of organisations to rationalise the plethora of standards sitting on top of Building Regulations, such as the Code for Sustainable Homes, Lifetime Homes and Homes and Communities Agency design indicators.
